Treatment of High and Low Blood Pressure

People with too high or too low blood pressure are in risk of severe health problems. For that reason both hypertension and hypotension require treatment to re-establish normal blood pressure values. Since abnormal blood pressure values often do not result any physical symptoms the only way to determine and diagnose low or high blood pressure is measurement either at a doctor or at home. However, it is important to keep in mind that one measurement does not have to mean anything and that is necessary to measure one's blood pressure everyday about the same time for a certain period. The daily blood pressure values must be written down to be able to calculate the average blood pressure values which either confirm or eliminate hypertension or hypotension.

Both hypertension and hypotension can be treated with some medications which are prescribed after several blood pressure measurements and careful consideration. If the blood pressure does not normalize after use of prescribed medication a doctor will might prescribe additional medication or replace the original one with another. Either way, each person is unique and requires different approach and treatment but it is necessary to precisely follow the direction of use.

Beside medical treatment people with either high or low blood pressure can do a lot on their own to normalize their blood pressure values. Since causes of high blood pressure are most frequently unhealthy diet, excessive alcohol intake, overweight and lack of physical activity hypertension can be greatly improved if changing the unhealthy diet, avoiding drinking alcohol and quit smoking, losing weight and regular exercise. Regular exercise is also helpful in regulating low blood pressure but people suffering from hypotension should also drink adequate amount of fluid, take cold-warm showers to increase blood circulation, and include in their diet beet which is renowned for problems with low blood pressure. Temporary helpful in low blood pressure might be also drinking coffee or other drinks with caffeine. Besides that is also important to be careful in changing the body position and not to do any sudden movements.
